Baikunthi Devi Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Agra, stands as a testament to the vision and dedication of its founders, who, in 1967, laid the foundation for a distinguished institution aimed at empowering women through education. With the guiding motto of "Tamaso ma Jyotirgamaya," which translates to "Lead me from darkness to light," the college has been unwaveringly committed to illuminating the lives of women in the Agra region.
The establishment of this educational hub owes much to the tireless efforts of the late Shri Dataram Parolia, an industrialist from Kolkata, along with the pivotal contributions of esteemed individuals such as Sri Kisan Lal Ji Gupta, Sri Raghuveer Prasad Gupta, Sri Laxmi Narrayan Gupta, and Shri Maveer Prasad Doneria, all distinguished businessmen from Agra.
What began with a modest enrollment of 33 students has blossomed into a comprehensive women's college, currently catering to approximately 3500 regular students and an additional 1000 students enrolled in self-financing courses. The college spans seven faculties, offering a diverse range of academic disciplines, including arts, science, fine arts, education, commerce, a BBA, and an MA in home science and economics.
In addition to undergraduate programs, the college boasts four postgraduate departments in the faculty of arts, two in the faculty of fine arts, and offers B.Ed. and M.Ed. programs through the faculty of education. Notably, the institution has become a nurturing ground for scholarly pursuits, with around 65 students pursuing Ph.D. degrees.
Baikunthi Devi Kanya Mahavidyalaya has consistently received State Merit Grants for an impressive 15 years, a testament to its sustained commitment to academic excellence. The college has successfully harnessed U.G.C. grants in aid, coupled with the wholehearted contribution of the managing committee, reflecting its effective utilization of resources to further its educational mission.
As a beacon of knowledge, empowerment, and enlightenment, Baikunthi Devi Kanya Mahavidyalaya continues to shape the future of women in the Agra region, fostering an environment where education becomes the catalyst for positive transformation and progress.
