In collaboration with the Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), The Ford Foundation and Indian industry, and the Government of West Bengal, IIM Calcutta was established in 1961. The institute offers PG, doctoral, and executive programmes to the students. IIM Kolkata's courses are provided across the Management and various other streams. The college is ranked 4th by NIRF 2023 under the Management category, 1st by Business Today 2023 for MBA, and 3rd by Outlook under the MBA (Government) category. Internationally, the college is ranked 50 by the QS World University Rankings 2024 - Masters In Management, and 61-70 by the QS World University Rankings 2024 - Masters In Business Analytics.
IIM Calcutta also offers The Long Duration Programmes to students. These programmes are meant for working professionals. The students can attend the sessions in the evenings or weekends. In the view of Thought Leadership, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta conducts various seminars and workshops for students in collaboration with national and international organisations and universities. For international student exchange programmes, the college has set up an international centre of excellence in management education.
