

National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) Overview
The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), also known as WBNUJS, was established in 1999 under the WBNUJS Act (West Bengal Act IX of 1999). It is one of India's leading national law schools. It refers to the five-year legal degree format developed and approved by the Bar Council of India. NUJS was recognized under Clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act, 1956 in August 2004, and it acquired permanent affiliation from the Bar Council of India in July 2005. As one of the country's autonomous law schools, NUJS, Kolkata ranks with GNLU and NLSIU, Bengaluru. These three universities are the only National Law Schools having the respected "Chief Justice of India" as Chancellor.
