1. Accolades and Achievements
- The college has been ranked 12th among India's medical colleges in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, marking a four-place improvement from the previous year. Moreover, it earned an A++ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), recognizing its excellence in teaching, research, and outreach.
2. Launch of Innovative Programs
- Introducing the inaugural postgraduate program in Medical Genetics, the first of its kind in the country. Aligned with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), this program aims to train students in the diagnosis, management of genetic disorders, and pioneering research in this emerging field. The program welcomes an annual intake of six students.
3. Engaging Webinars and Workshops
- The college conducted a series of webinars and workshops addressing diverse facets of the COVID-19 pandemic, encompassing topics like vaccination, mental health, infection prevention and control, and ethical issues. Attended by faculty, students, alumni, and healthcare professionals nationally and internationally, these sessions provided valuable insights.
4. Celebrating Milestones
- Celebrated its 60th anniversary on October 29, 2023, hosting a grand event graced by esteemed guests including the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind as the chief guest, along with dignitaries such as the Governor of Karnataka, Shri Vajubhai Vala, the Archbishop of Bangalore, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, and the Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Randeep Guleria. The event showcased the college's six-decade journey and its vision for the future.
5. Grant for Research and Innovation
- Secured a significant grant of Rs. 10 crore from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. This funding aims to establish a Centre of Excellence in Genomics and Precision Medicine. The center's focus is on pioneering novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for diseases like cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and infectious diseases using genomic technologies and data analysis. It will also collaborate with national and international institutions for research and training.
